The Toys”R”Us story began in 1948 when the entrepreneurial 25 year old Charles Lazarus opened a baby store in Washington, DC in the United States. As his customers’ children grew up, Charles expanded his baby store into a toy store. By 1957, this single store had become a full scale toy store extravaganza and the world’s first toy supermarket had opened. The incredibly wide range of toys stocked there was a revolution in toy retailing and this has remained the trademark of Toys”R”Us Stores worldwide ever since.
