John Walker grew up idolising his older brother who had been killed in the Vietnam War. Feeling that he was not a hero in his own military career like his brother, he underwent a process to augment his strength to superhuman levels.

As U.S. Agent, Walker donned a variation of the costume worn by Captain America, using a vibranium disc as a shield, fighting in such teams as The Invaders, S.T.A.R.S., Force Works and Mighty Avengers.
